Photory: stories told in captioned photos, scene by scene

Photory is a community for visual storytelling: people share stories made of photos, each with its own caption, and readers move through them scene by scene. MERCIL designed and developed the platform with the Photory team, from the story editor to the feed, hashtags and comments, on the app and the web.

The client's need

A community built around stories, not follower counts

The story at the centre of every screen

What we built

A story editor, a reader and a community, on app and web

Outcome

Stories that are easy to tell and easy to read

  • A story in a few steps

Pick photos, caption each one and share, all in one editor.

  • Read it like a page

Scene by scene, with the caption hidden at a tap when the photo should speak.

  • One community, app and web

The same stories, hashtags and conversations on the phone and in the browser.

  • Copy-protected e-books for GMMTV fans, on three app stores

    GMMTV

GMMTV’s e-book store and reading app for novels, comics and artist content: on iOS, Android, HarmonyOS and the web, with Thai and English editions, in-app payment and protection against screenshots and screen recording.

  • Custom software or off-the-shelf: how to decide

Feature lists make ready-made products look like the safe choice. A better test is how far your process is from the one the product was built for, and who pays for the difference.
