The client

The client's need

Official books for fans, in a format that cannot be copied

How we fitted it

Designed as one platform, released to three app stores

What we built

A reading app, a web store and a back office

Outcome

A protected digital channel for official content

  • Buy and read in one place

Official novels and comics on phone, tablet and web, in Thai or English.

  • Content that stays protected

Books cannot be screen-captured or recorded, and open only inside the platform.

  • A store they run themselves

Books, readers, admins and orders are managed in the back office.

  • Photory: stories told in captioned photos, scene by scene

    Photory

Photory is a community for visual storytelling: people share stories made of photos, each with its own caption, and readers move through them scene by scene. MERCIL designed and developed the platform with the Photory team, from the story editor to the feed, hashtags and comments, on the app and the web.

  • Custom software or off-the-shelf: how to decide

Feature lists make ready-made products look like the safe choice. A better test is how far your process is from the one the product was built for, and who pays for the difference.
