What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local and session storage, work in a similar way. In this policy, "cookies" covers all of them.
What we use
Essential
These are needed for the website to work. None of them identifies you, tracks you across other websites, or is shared with anyone.

We use these without asking for consent. You can block or delete them in your browser settings, but the cookie notice may then appear on every page.
MERCIL staff who preview unpublished pages also get one cookie from our website software (__prerender_bypass), which lasts until they close the browser. Visitors never receive it.
Optional: analytics
Only if you select "Accept analytics", we load Google Analytics 4 and Hotjar, which set these cookies so we can understand how the website is used. See our Privacy Policy for what is collected.

Hotjar also uses a few other short-lived _hj cookies and browser storage items during a visit. If you choose "Essential only", or make no choice, neither Google Analytics nor Hotjar loads and none of these cookies are set. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as "Essential only" and do not show the cookie notice, unless you change your choice in "Cookie settings". Google's advertising and personalisation features are switched off. Google may process this data in the United States and other countries; Hotjar stores recordings in the European Union (Ireland).
We do not use advertising cookies.
Changing your choice
You can change your choice at any time by selecting "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. Declining is as easy as accepting. If you withdraw your consent, Google Analytics and Hotjar stop loading and we delete their cookies from your browser.
Other websites
This website links to other sites, such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Messenger, and our product LOOCA at looca.io. They set their own cookies under their own policies once you visit them.
